Note: the instructions below work only with POP accounts. Outlook Express for Windows's message rules do not work with IMAP accounts.

Outlook Express for Windows can filter your messages that a "tag" like [NOD32: deleted] added to the beginning of their Subject lines. Here's how to do so:

  1. In the list of Local Folders, select the Inbox folder.

    Select Inbox folder

  2. Go to the Tools menu and choose Message Rules->Mail...:

Select MessageRules, Mail from the Tools menu

  3. In the New Mail Rule window, in section 1. Select the conditions for your rule:, click the box next to Where the Subject line contains specific words:

    Subject line, select specific words

  4. In the New Mail Rule window, in section 2. Select the Actions for your rule:, click the box next to Move it to the specified folder:

Move to folder mail rules option

  5. In the New Mail Rule window, in section 3. Rule Description (click on an underlined value to edit it):, click the phrase contains specific words (which should be highlighted in blue and underlined):

    Contains specific words link

  6. In the Type Specific Words window, in the top field, which is labelled Type specific words or a phrase, and click Add, type  [NOD32: deleted] exactly as shown here:

Type Specific Words dialog with spam filter words

  7. Click Add.

  8. Click OK.

  9. The New Mail Rule window will once again appear. In section 3. Rule Description (click on an underlined value to edit it):, click the word specified (which should be highlighted in blue and underlined):

    Click specified folder link

  10. Click Deleted Items to highlight it:
